NEW PROJECT - Bucket Bag

I took my good friend Mary Ann to visit a local yarn shop today.  She's a fairly new knitter and has made many wonderfully creative scarves and purses.  Anyways, she had never visited the shop and me, being an ambassador for the art of knitting, took her for a visit.  Well guess what happened?  She got a lot of good ideas and because she's more disciplined than I am she didn't buy any yarn.  Wants to wait until she finishes her other projects.  Imagine that!

051407_028_3 I, on the other hand, walked out with 14 skeins of yarn and a pattern for the Bucket Bag by Two Old Bags.   I picked up six of Ironstone Yarns Colorchanges in Ocean (color 135) and will run it with Lamb's Pride Worsted in Iced Jade - bought three of these.  This bag starts out at the bottom, with DPNs.  Since you may know that I can't stand to be around DPNs my good friend Lee (the queen of charity knitting) is going to start it for me.  When she gets to the point where a circular will work I'll take it from there.  It's great to have talented friends!  I've heard that this is a pretty popular pattern - have any of you done it?  Or know anyone that has?  I want to make a Bucket Bag Album here on my site with pictures of it done in different yarns.  Send me a picture or two by email and I'll include it.  If anyone in my area wants to do a knit a long let me know - it would be fun.

Next post I'll show the absolutely gorgeous Alp Premier yarn by Feza I also got on the trip.  Let me knit up a swatch or two first.

It's a Blog!

Today is Mother's Day and with that comes family get-togethers, long-distance phone calls, cards and memories of those early days as Moms.  My boys are grown, but I felt like I gave birth one more time today.  A girl?  A boy?  No, it's a blog!  My close knitting friends know that I've been working on this for some time.  I've already missed a self-imposed deadline, and for that I owe my good friend Kelle some sock yarn.

Putting this together has been a lot of fun - guess that's why so many people have a blog to share their knitting obsession no holds barred.  In the process of putting together my "On Needles" section I actually found a tote bag that is 3/4's done that I totally forgot about!  (We'll discuss yarn and project storage tips on another day).

Img_0808_3 It's going to be a tote bag/purse for the summer.  Probably for me but it might be a gift if the right occasion arises.  The pattern is my own, and I'm using Schaefer Yarns "Sandra" in the Victoria Woodhull colorway throughout.  The other solid colors are Tahki Fiji, which I just learned is discontinued and Louisa Harding "Glisten" for a little glitz near the top.

Many thanks to my good friend and knitting buddy Trish for the TypePad tips and eternal optimism.  I look up to her as a great knitter and cherish her as a friend.   Check out her blog - she's amazing!

Well, I'm glad to be part of the online knitter's world.  Next post coming soon, till then happy knitting!
